Welsh Network of Healthy School Schemes
The Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Schemes encourages the development of local healthy school schemes within a common national framework. These in turn, encourage the development of health promoting schools in their area.
A health promoting school actively promotes and protects the physical, mental and social health and well being of its community through positive action. Local Coordinators also ensure local networking, and maintain a system of monitoring and accreditation of the schools in their scheme. Local Schemes are accredited by the Welsh Government.
The Welsh Government has now extended the scheme to include a Healthy and Sustainable Pre-school Scheme which has been introduced in each local authority area in Wales.
The Welsh Network of Healthy School Schemes (WNHSS) have produced a report ‘In Perspective’ which provides case studies of food and fitness actions in schools. It looks at actions on nutrition and physical activity undertaken by one school from each of the twenty two local Healthy School Schemes.
