In March 2007 Rebecca Firks, Nutrition Network Lead Officer and Anne-Marie Brackpool, PANW Co-ordinator presented at the UK Public Health Association Conference in Edinburgh. The presentation was entitled Building Blocks: Networking for Better Health and was part of a parallel session on Partnership and Workforce Capacity for Tackling Obesity. This presentation builds on the experience of setting up the Nutrition Network for Wales and the Physical Activity Network for Wales to outline what the key components of a network are.
Participation Cymru has produced a toolkit, which is aimed at people who wish to set up a new network, or those wishing to revisit and refresh the purpose and focus of an existing network. The participatory methods in this toolkit explore the purpose of the network, building a shared vision for the future, achieve consensus about the network’s aim and objectives, develop a clear terms of reference and identify how your network will add value. Participation Cymru offers a range of advice and support services to help practitioners across Wales design, develop and implement participatory approaches in order to engage effectively with citizens and communities, including setting up networks.
